THE MAYNARDVILLE.COM FORUM RULES

Updated 02/15/06

  • ALL POSTS ARE MODERATED
Now idiots will tell you we moderate posts to keep out opinions that are contrary to our own. I don't see how anyone can read the forum and see all the people who call Chip an idiot and can believe that. 90% of Chip's posts are disagreeing with others so it would seem only the delusional would make that assumption. Posts are and will always be moderated. We appreciate that you may want to tell us what elected officials are having affairs. In fact we like to read such gossip but we can not allow it on the forum for legal reasons. The case can be made that we could delete the posts after they're made and not before they appear on the forum. But the fact is, in the hour or so it may take us to see that post and take it down many people may see it. This could and would cause a hardship for this person and innocent members of his or her family. We pay a lot of money to have this capability and we intend to use it. We may disagree with person "A" in the courthouse but we will not damage them, their reputation or harm their family. To this we are 100% committed.
  • NO PROFANITY
One thing we have learned from running a furum in Union County  for the last seven years is that many of our readers don't know what "profanity" means. Webster's Dictionary defines it as words and phrases you wouldn't say to your mother. They include but are not limited to; damn, shit, hell, bitch, ass etc. The English language is only second to Chinese for the most words...surely you can find some way of conveying your message without using words like that. But regardless we have numbskulls most every day who will write a forty page treatise and send it in containing vulgar stuff. They must like to watch themselves type because it sure as heck won't make it on our forum.
  • NO PERSONAL ATTACKS
It's how you put it … "I don't agree, and here's my reasons why..." is okay …"You are a stupid, worthless moron" is not okay. Many of us here in the south start sentences with "bless your heart" and that can work too.
  • NO SPAMMING OUR BOARD MEMBERS
If someone does sign their name or give their email address it is not a license to contact them with an advertisement or solicitation. If someone does this to you contact Chip or the Moderator immediately with full headers of the email and action will be take immediately. If the email contains threats it will be turned over to the correct authorities.
  • NO BLATANTLY RACIST REMARKS
This should be obvious, but then again I thought everyone knew what dirty words were. And just because you know a member of the subject group who would not be offended by it, does not make it acceptable.
  • SELF TERMINATION
If at any time you send us an email or any other correspondence saying or otherwise implying that you will no longer use our message board, we will take you at your word. To keep the world from being populated with yet another liar we will help by then placing you on the banned list. Do not tell us you intend to never come back unless you mean it. Written apologies are accepted for consideration for reinstatement.
  • DISAGREEMENTS ARE ENCOURAGED
If there’s no common ground achieved, then all parties should politely agree to disagree and move on. The exception to this rule is that you may be a bit more forceful with Chip. He agrees that it is more his duty as the forum owner to allow flexibility when debating him. However, Chip agrees that in his argument with others he must also abide by the rules. The forum moderator (NOT CHIP) is expected to hold Chip to the rules as well and not allow any post from him if they violate the rules. EG: You can call Chip an imbecile but he can't call you one.
  • DON'T DEBATE IDIOTS
If you sense you're involved with someone who's off his or her medication, just back away slowly. No matter how idiotic their statement is if they are insane it won't help to discuss it. Maybe this isn't a rule, but just plain good advice.
  • DON'T GET ANGRY
This usually occurs from making assumptions or jumping to conclusions about the intent or ulterior motive, that one reads into a post. It's always better to pause a moment and try to picture how it’ll sound on the other end. And refrain from arguments about "who said what" or what you think they said.
  • NO ONE ON ONE DISCUSSIONS
No insults, name calling or inflamed speech. Personal one-on-one arguments, disagreements or personality conflicts are not appropriate on the public discussion forum. The moderator shall provide guidance to participants on what is appropriate and what is not allowed as the need arises. Attempts at humor or sarcasm should be labeled ... ;-), :-)
  • POST TO EVERYONE
Post to all members, not just "Letter to Bob" or "Hey Jim" posts. Do not single individual people out for your attack. Attack or refute the comment not the person.
  • NO TRYING TO GUESS WHO PEOPLE ARE
We go to a lot of expense to make this forum anonymous. We all know that in Union County if the "Powers That be" could find out who disagrees with them it could affect job security or worse. We will no longer tolerate any post that tries to determine who an anonymous poster is. Challenge them to give their name, but if they choose not to it is their right. The only person who MUST give their name is Chip the owner of the site.
  • STAY ON TOPIC
Now one conversation can lead into another I understand that. But when a post starts out talking about cheerleaders and ends up an attack on U.S. foreign policy something went wrong. Start new Topics!
  • AVOID PARTISANSHIP
Don't gang up on someone who disagrees with one of your friends. To show support for one side in a disagreement, state your support for the position and not just for the person. You may agree with Chip on issue one but if he takes an idiotic stand on issue two don't defend him just because he's Chip.
  • AVOID CONFLICT
If you have a problem with someone, hash it out. If it's getting out of hand, or if you can’t work it out then leave each other alone
  • NO POSTING URLS
We do not allow posts of URL's (Website addresses) on our forum. We can not verify the content of such an address and since kids read our forum we can not allow it. The exception is posting an article from a reputable news agency or site and giving that URL for reference. Certain Websites may have agreements with Maynardville.Com to give their URL's. This is by prior agreement only and may be removed if that site is determined to include offensive material or content detrimental to our readers or harmful to our website.
  • NO COMMERCIAL ADVERTISING
No advertising of commercial businesses is allowed. The exception is in commenting on a business you like or don't like. Businesses can post upcoming specific events but not just an advertisement. Say the local game room is having a lock in. It is okay for them to post that and the particulars, but not just "So and So's Market...Best price on chicken legs."
  • PRIVACY
What privacy? This is the Internet after all. You post it here anyone can see it! As far as Maynardville.Com goes we reserve the right to use your post (including turning them over to authorities if asked). Heck if we figure out a way to make a dollar off anything you send us we'll do it...Can't get much more honest than that!
